About Organic

To guarantee truly organic products, we use the IFOAM International Certification, the Organic Thailand Certification, we verify every Real Food Partner ourselves and we enable customers to visit every farm personally.

IFOAM,

which stands for the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, is a global organisation dedicated to promoting organic agriculture and sustainable food systems. Its certification system, IFOAM Accreditation, serves as a rigorous standard for ensuring that agricultural products labelled as "organic" adhere to strict ecological, social, and economic guidelines.

IFOAM International Organic Certification

  1. Global Organic Standard: IFOAM Accreditation provides a globally recognized benchmark for organic certification. It aligns national and regional organic standards through its IFOAM Norms, which serve as a framework for certifying bodies worldwide.
  2. Principles: The certification adheres to the four core principles of organic agriculture defined by IFOAM:
    • Health: Organic farming should sustain and enhance the health of soil, plants, animals, humans, and the planet as a whole.
    • Ecology: Organic systems should work within ecological systems and cycles.
    • Fairness: It should build relationships that ensure fairness regarding the common environment and life opportunities.
    • Care: Organic agriculture must be managed in a precautionary and responsible manner.
  3. IFOAM Accreditation System: Certifiers that follow IFOAM standards are assessed and accredited by the International Organic Accreditation Service (IOAS), an independent body. This ensures consistency and reliability across different countries and markets.

The Organic Thailand Certification is a national organic certification program managed by Thailand's Department of Agriculture (DOA), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. It was developed to promote organic farming practices within the country, encourage sustainable agriculture, and ensure consumer trust in organic products grown and produced in Thailand.

Organic Thailand Certification

  1. National Organic Standards: The Organic Thailand certification follows the national organic standards established by the Thai government. These standards are designed to regulate and promote the production of organic food and products within Thailand. They align closely with international organic standards but are tailored to local agricultural conditions and challenges.
  2. Governing Body: The certification is overseen by Thailand’s Department of Agriculture (DOA), which establishes the criteria and guidelines for organic production, processing, and labeling.
  3. Certification Process: Farms and businesses seeking Organic Thailand certification must undergo a rigorous inspection and verification process. This includes:
    • Assessment of the farming practices (e.g., soil fertility, pest management).
    • Prohibition of synthetic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and GMOs.
    • Monitoring of post-harvest handling and processing to ensure organic integrity throughout the supply chain.
  4. Organic Symbol: Products that meet the organic standards are labeled with the "Organic Thailand" logo, signifying that they have passed the certification requirements and adhere to organic practices.

What Buyers Can Expect from Organic Thailand Certified Products

  1. Chemical-Free Production: Similar to other international organic standards, Organic Thailand-certified products are free from synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, herbicides, and GMOs. Farmers use natural methods of pest control and fertilisation, such as crop rotation, composting, and biological pest management.
  2. Sustainable Farming Practices: The certification emphasises sustainability, encouraging practices that protect the environment, conserve biodiversity, and improve soil health. Buyers can trust that organic farming methods reduce environmental harm, particularly in terms of soil degradation, water pollution, and chemical runoff.
  3. Safe and Healthy Products: Organic Thailand-certified foods are considered safer for consumption because they do not contain harmful chemical residues. The focus is on producing wholesome, nutrient-rich food while avoiding synthetic additives or preservatives.
  4. Animal Welfare: If livestock or animal products are part of the certified farm’s production, Organic Thailand certification ensures that animals are raised under humane conditions, with natural feed and no use of growth hormones or antibiotics.
  5. Support for Local Farmers: Buyers of Organic Thailand-certified products can expect that their purchase supports local farmers who are committed to organic and sustainable agricultural practices. The program helps small-scale Thai farmers transition to organic farming and gain access to both domestic and international markets.
  6. Cultural and Ecological Sensitivity: Organic Thailand certification takes into account the unique agricultural systems and ecological challenges specific to Thailand. It encourages traditional farming knowledge and the use of local resources to maintain healthy ecosystems and preserve cultural farming practices.
